I remember when I was a little girl, my grandfather would often say, " You can do anything you want to do as long as you can read". That's it! No excuses for anything. Because simply put, you can read a recipe, so now you can technically cook. If you want to go somewhere, you must read the signs, and if you want to put something together, you must read the instructions.; or so I thought.

Well, I recently moved. And with many moves, sometimes you subtract the things you own, and sometimes you add to what you already have. This time, I decided to add to my life stash by way of a doorbell. I thought it would be nice to see who was at the door before I actually opened the door. It seemed like a no brainer. Catch up with the times. And catch up, I did. What I did not realize was that, while you are attempting to get caught up, adjustments must be made to allow for catching up. Whether it is in the form of upgrading your telephone and accessories, making space on your phone for a new app, or in your home for a new appliance, or in your closet for new shoes. Adjustments are necessary. My adjustments came in the form of, no longer being able to call my dad for help( this called some sadness and delayed my installation), and then realizing iI have to nstall the new doorbell myself.

Like so many, my first stop was Youtube. I had the necessary tools- screwdriver, hammer, and the instructions; but like any first timer, I needed a visual blueprint, and a boost of confidence, So I watched the 7-minute video about 5xs, and just said, I can do this, stop overthinking. I began to vacillate between picking  up the phone and calling someone to install the doorbell or picking up the hammer and screw. Finally, I gave myself my peptalk of “you’re not the princess, you’re the queen, get to work!”

And, just like that like my doorbell is now installed. I didn’t have to call anyone to my rescue, I realized, its figureoutable.

Stop waiting on someone else and understand that you have everything you need to get the job done. I already had a small tool kit, the instructions in the box, and phone,  which allowed me a gateway to additional resources. It’s figureoutable. Take a breath and then take a step in the direction of accomplishment.

You cannot devour an elephant in one big bite, take small bites. And remember, you will get there. It’s figureoutable.
