Judges 4:4
Judges 4:4
Now Deborah , a prophet, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel a the time.
I have read this one Scripture over a dozen times. I have sat with it. Walked with it. Allowed it to take up mental space and pay some form of rent over the last month. In my mind
The wording of this Scripture seems intentional. And if you know God, He is INTENTIONAL about everything, As I researched other versions to ensure what stood out to me was correct, I found very little deviations. Out of 10 Biblical versions, 3 changed the order of the words.
In a world whereas Crystal reminded us, that her mother’s credit card was entitled “Mrs. Norville Smith”. In a world where credit was extended to women by law in 1974. In a world where many women in 2026 are still becoming the firsts in their field’s of aviation, entertainment, athletics, science, business, finance, and religion by way of constantly breaking glass ceilings that only exist in the eyes that claim to be superior.
In the book, Half the Sky, it immediately starts out by saying that there are over 500,000 women that are missing in the world. That is in both 1st and 3rd world countries alike. Women are missing because they are trafficked, murdered, not allowed in spaces, deemed unworthy not due to lack of education, but because of gender.
I hear you, I know what you are asking. What does any of this have to do Deborah. Well, here it is.
Walk with me for a bit. What do you think would happen if the world over saw women, like the author of Judges and God saw women? I believe cancer would be cured, the financial deficit would be cleared, and there would be a level of peace this world has not yet seen since before Adam took a bite of that fruit.
After the announcement of Deborah, the very next description is that of prophet. A prophet is One that reveals what God has spoken. And in order for you to reveal what God has spoken, God has to speak to you. You must be in contact and conversation, or better yet in relationship with God to handle his words to give to his people. All that to say, God speaks to women. God seeks relationship with women. With us. No gender has a monopoly on God.
The last description is that of judge, Being a judge takes time, patience, the ability to listen, and a perfect love of the Law, and with Deborah, it was God’s Law and God’s people. She loved God.
Sandwiched in between being a prophet and a judge, was Deborah being Lappidoth’s wife. This only serves to proves that she is a woman that leads a nation and also can be led by her husband.
God does not call us to be one or the other, we can wear as many hats as he gives us, as long as he is the one that has created the multiple hats for us .
We are sister and friend. Business owner and mom. Basketball player and chef. Engineer and mentor. Niece and doctor. Scientist and surfer. Judge and gardner. Scuba diver and teacher. Therapist and wife.
Like Deborah, we do not have to choose which hat we should, for we are graced to waer every hat or tittle that he seems fit to allow us to wear.
Jesus is both Son of Man and Bread of Life. He is both Joy and Peace. He is the lifter of your head and the drier of all your tears. He is both Savior of tthe world and gentle Redeemer.
Wear everry hat or title that God has given you my friend....You are both woman and warrior!
